Tom began coaching in Midland, MI in 1968 as a JV basketball and varsity golf coach at Dow HS
At Dow, he was named varsity basketball coach at Midland High School, a job he held for the next 21 years
Tom led Midland to one Saginaw Valley Championship, four district championships and two regional championships. His teams won 228 games which is the most in school history.
He was honored in 1996 with the Lloyd Osborne Award (for service and leadership in Midland Public Schools)
In 1997 he entered the Michigan High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame
He was also honored in 1999 with the MHSCA Distinguished Service Award
36 years ago, Tom co-founded the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan. He has been the Executive Director for all these years and has seen the membership grow to over 4,200 members
